First round pop isn't very common on a rimfire rifle because not only has most of the powder burned already but the temperature of the gases has fallen below the point where it will ignite the gases in the can. Now, with a pistol barrel, that doesn't apply because the powder hasn't all burned yet and the gas temperature is still very high.
