Well, there go my peach blossoms. They predicted 36, but it's 27 out there right now.

Nighttime colds dipping down to just above, or right at, freezing. Days are nice. We’re trying to decide when to put the new pullets out. They’re in the garage and still pretty small. Maybe after Easter.

Tired and headed to bed soon- early for me. We’ve had my granddaughter since Saturday. My daughter-in-law had emergency surgery on Saturday morning and we took her so they could concentrate on her medical needs. She went home tonight.

This morning my wife said, “Are you OK?” I replied, “I’m not used to having a two-year-old! I’m tired!” She’s precious, and the light of my life, but young children need young parents.

I'm heading for the range on Friday. Forecast is 89 degrees, partly cloudy and only an 11% chance of rain. I've got several guns I need to function and accuracy test, One is an Alpine M1 carbine clone that a friend of mine wants me to fix. I have some thoughts as to the root cause but want to see if I can replicate the problem first. I'll give y'all more details after the range trip.

How ‘clone’ is that? Dad left me an M1 Carbine and it’s just a pleasure to shoot. I’ve never really tested the limits of accuracy, so I don’t know how it groups with any certainty, but it cycles and I’ve not had any feeding issues. I don’t shoot it much.

Alpine was one of those companies like Universal, Iver Johnson, RIA and others that made commercial copies of the M1 back in the 1960s - 1970s. Most used surplus GI parts in the beginning with their own manufacture receivers and barrels. Later, when the parts ran out they made their own. Quality was spotty. Alpine also used surplus 1903A3 barrels cut and re-contoured. None of the clones were ever true milspec and most had problems. Universal was the most notorious as a problem child. Alpine seems to have been one of the better ones.
