“Rumbling returns to South Carolina as first earthquake of 2025 hits the Columbia area. South Carolina's first earthquake of the year was confirmed Wednesday morning. A 1.9 magnitude earthquake rumbled in the Midlands area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.”

Sounded like it was in my front yard.

I don't know if it's because of better monitoring or not, but we're seeing more earthquake activity. The Bible has something to say about earthquakes in diverse areas.

Our last little one was a 7.2. Banged around pretty good.

I find earthquakes amazing. The last one here was about a 3.2 and was barely noticeable. But it was down by Rend lake and the New Madrid fault which is a couple of hundred miles away. But it had enough power to move the ground enough that you could feel it here. We have a limestone quarry 5 miles to the south. When they do a shot there they use about 4 tons of explosives and it feels about the same as the earthquake did. There is a ton of power in 4 tons of explosives but that isn't what we feel when it explodes. It is the several hundred tons of rock being lifted and then dropping back down that we feel. It just boggles the mind how much power is in an earthquake that from a couple hundred miles away feels like 4 tons of explosives blowing up 5 miles away.

It was the same thing when I was in Montana. We had earthquakes there from Yellowstone volcano and when you think about moving an entire mountain even inches, that is some tremendous energy being expended.

I wouldn't worry too much @specops56 a 1.9 is slightly less power than when Stacey Abrams falls on her 3rd trip to the buffet.

Not worried. I've been through much bigger ones in San Diego and Adak, AK. We've had more quakes here in the last 3 years than in the 68 years since I was born here.
