Not sure if this belongs here or in preparedness. I've always carried a couple cans of sardines in the field with me (in oil to maximize calories). I wonder what you guys carry in the field?
Now that I don't go out in the field anymore I still eat them frequently.
I like pemmican. Easy to make, lots of energy, lightweight and very unlikely to spoil
I get a 12 pack of em in mustard off amazon for late night snack or a quick meal

I've been a fan of mederanian sardines but I mistakenly grabbed some lightly smoked sardines in oil at the grocery store. Pretty dang good.
I've never had pemmington like Montana lon talked about since I've never been a back packer and been concerned about weight. It sounds like a good thing, though.
My former sheriff was a fan of sardines. He often ate them for lunch at his desk. During a meeting in his office one day, he noticed something on his desktop and scraped it up with a fingernail. Then he stuck it in his mouth and said, "Mmmm... sardines." He was a character.

Trader Joe’s has some very good smoked trout and salmon. I switch between them and sardines in mustard.
