How good are they? Never had one but was told it’s worth venturing into Chicago for Finally going to the UP this summer & debating route, possibly the Dells or Green Bay, grandpa was from prairie du chien before moving to Dubuque & then further west. Appleton sticks in the brain for some reason RE: What's for supper! - srjdsmith - 04-13-2025 (04-13-2025, 02:23 AM)Rampy Wrote:(04-13-2025, 01:45 AM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-12-2025, 10:23 PM)tommag Wrote:(04-12-2025, 04:48 PM)srjdsmith Wrote: Gene and Jude’sThose fries look yummy! I love Gene & Jude’s. A double Red Hot and fries… like heaven on earth. There’s no dining room- you either eat standing up at a counter or take it to your car. Cash only. Simple menu- hot dog with fries or double dog with fries. That’s about it. A Vienna Beef Red Hot is NOT a hot dog- all beef (no lips, eyeballs, or buttholes- real beef) and a nice ‘snappy’ casing. And fresh, greasy fries that sit in your stomach like a cannonball. It’s marvelous. Cant get RedHot’s here, last time home went to Hi-Vee and Fairway looking for them and nope… What ever happened to red hots???? put Gene & Jude’s on the map, want to get some Trappistine carmels & Irish mints when passing through RE: What's for supper! - Rampy - 04-13-2025 (04-13-2025, 10:29 AM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-13-2025, 02:23 AM)Rampy Wrote:(04-13-2025, 01:45 AM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-12-2025, 10:23 PM)tommag Wrote:(04-12-2025, 04:48 PM)srjdsmith Wrote: Gene and Jude’sThose fries look yummy! I’m completely ignorant about going North from Gene & Judes to the UP, where are some good towns/places to look for hotels? wont need food since we just feasted at Gene & Judes RE: What's for supper! - srjdsmith - 04-13-2025 (04-13-2025, 09:08 PM)Rampy Wrote:(04-13-2025, 10:29 AM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-13-2025, 02:23 AM)Rampy Wrote:(04-13-2025, 01:45 AM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-12-2025, 10:23 PM)tommag Wrote: Those fries look yummy! Hm. I suppose it depends how far north you’re going in a day? Milwaukee is reachable in 1/2 a day. Look for a Racine Kringle for dessert. Lake Geneva and Williams Bay, Wisconsin have some nice places- within 2 hours from Gene and Jude’s. Cedarburg, WI, I think has places, but it’s been a few years. Door County is a little out of your way, but we LOVE the dining and lodging- Ephraim especially, but Egg Harbor & Sister Bay. You gotta catch a Door County fish boil! RE: What's for supper! - tommag - 04-13-2025 ![]() ![]() NY steak, reverse seared with asparagus. Cooked on a gas grill with some wood chips. I put my asparagus in foil with butter and garlic powder. the steak was rubbed with salt, fresh ground pepper, and garlic salt. In the steakhouse I managed I cooked the prime rib in the oven this way as well as at home, but this is my first try with a thick steak. RE: What's for supper! - specops56 - 04-14-2025 Last night was another new Factor meal. No pictures this time. It was their "Texas Burger." Driest burger I've ever eaten in my life! I ate less than half and gave the rest to the cats. Even their chicken breasts aren't as dry as that burger. The "chef" must have been texting while cooking that one. I marked it a resounding NO! Not to mention 3 small pieces of broccoli or other vegetables RE: What's for supper! - Rampy - 04-14-2025 (04-13-2025, 09:46 PM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-13-2025, 09:08 PM)Rampy Wrote:(04-13-2025, 10:29 AM)srjdsmith Wrote:(04-13-2025, 02:23 AM)Rampy Wrote:(04-13-2025, 01:45 AM)srjdsmith Wrote: I watched them take the potatoes out of a burlap sack and slice them before chucking them in the fryer… In typical Gene and Jude’s fashion they pile them on top of the dog before wrapping it all in wax paper. Thanks will check them out 😎😎😎😎😎 Going from Marshalltown to Marquette, right now it’s a full days drive However, if we detour to Chicago then we tend to go 8-9 hours before stopping for the night |
