I ate less than half and gave the rest to the cats. Even their chicken breasts aren't as dry as that burger. The "chef" must have been texting while cooking that one. I marked it a resounding NO!

I’ve put Factor on hold, just not liking the menus or the price vs quality. Not to mention 3 small pieces of broccoli or other vegetables

I'm about ready to be done with them for the same reasons.

Finally going to the UP this summer & debating route, possibly the Dells or Green Bay, grandpa was from prairie du chien before moving to Dubuque & then further west.

Appleton sticks in the brain for some reason

I love Gene & Jude’s. A double Red Hot and fries… like heaven on earth.

There’s no dining room- you either eat standing up at a counter or take it to your car. Cash only. Simple menu- hot dog with fries or double dog with fries. That’s about it. A Vienna Beef Red Hot is NOT a hot dog- all beef (no lips, eyeballs, or buttholes- real beef) and a nice ‘snappy’ casing. And fresh, greasy fries that sit in your stomach like a cannonball. It’s marvelous.

I’m completely ignorant about going North from Gene & Judes to the UP, where are some good towns/places to look for hotels?

wont need food since we just feasted at Gene & Judes

Hm. I suppose it depends how far north you’re going in a day? Milwaukee is reachable in 1/2 a day. Look for a Racine Kringle for dessert. Lake Geneva and Williams Bay, Wisconsin have some nice places- within 2 hours from Gene and Jude’s.

Cedarburg, WI, I think has places, but it’s been a few years. Door County is a little out of your way, but we LOVE the dining and lodging- Ephraim especially, but Egg Harbor & Sister Bay. You gotta catch a Door County fish boil!

Thanks will check them out 😎😎😎😎😎

Going from Marshalltown to Marquette, right now it’s a full days drive

However, if we detour to Chicago then we tend to go 8-9 hours before stopping for the night

I don’t want your wife mad at me; you’ve been warned. Gene and Jude’s is a hot dog stand. No tables. No waiters. Pay cash and eat in your car.

But… it is, IMHO, the world’s ultimate hot dog stand. A double dog and fries and I can hear the angels singing. I don’t enjoy raw onions or relish, so I get mustard and sport peppers. Don’t ask for ketchup if you value your life.

I put both mustard and ketchup on my hot dogs. Real men eat whatever the hell they want to.

Well, elsewhere I eat ketchup on my hot dogs. But Gene and Jude’s doesn’t have ketchup and the McDonald’s next door won’t give you any if it’s for Gene & Jude’s (I think they charge $.25 per packet or something).

Don’t quote me on this, but it’s possible the Chicago mafia puts out a hit on anyone who eats ketchup on a Red Hot from Gene & Jude’s. You didn’t hear that from me.

No problem with eating in the car other than normally you don’t get refills on drinks 😱😱

Im trying to keep carbs as low as possible so would not normally get fries

As far as condiments on red hots….if it’s a good red hot with a good steamed bun…nothing.

However, I’ll also go with what is recommended or generally preferred as to get the real experience

I do like raw onion on chili dogs and a good relish on cheap hotdogs along with mustard and ketchup

Sounds like a old school Chicago eating establishment 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Call me stupid but we are looking at staying in Trump international hotel/tower in Chicago now 😆😆😆😆😆😆

They have a semi good military discount & it would only be for a single night but at the same time ouch it’s expensive 🤪🤪

RE: What's for supper! - Rampy - 04-16-2025

Pulled the trigger and canceled Factor meals, looking at a few different options

Love the concept, just need to find one that we like

Stuffed peppers with Italian sweet sausage tonight. Shannon and Rob said it was like eating in a fancy restaurant. I thought it needed a couple more cloves of garlic, but I'm a garlic fanatic.

I made 6, so I have 3 left for later.
