I, too, have done only 80% lowers. That said, if my earliest attempts were successful, it should prove that the lower is not the biggest impediment to having an accurate, functional rifle. I guess the abiding question would be if the life of the rifle is impacted by the “quality” of the lower. I haven’t worn one out, yet.

The lower is subjected to very little stress compared to the upper.

I decided to go ahead and update this thread. I called around to my local gun shops and the lowers that are available are either a spikes tactical or a Areo precision unless I want to order something. The prices are within a couple bucks of each other, just over $100, however the spikes is just a standard mil spec lower, while the Areo is a forged lower with built in trigger guard and it also have the keeper screws for the detent under the buffer tube and a screw instead of roll pin for the bolt release. The gun shop with the Areo lowers is also 5 miles from my house so that is the one I'm gonna get.

I guess the trigger will be the next thing to figure out.

I'll send you that Grendel barrel that I got from Numrich. I'm not sure but I think you had it for a while? I can't remember the defense contractor that made it but it's way more accurate than a chrome lined barrel should be when thermo fitted to a BCM upper. Now I rember, it was from saber defense and the atf shut them down for some import/export violations.Thermo fitting should be a piece of cake in your neck of the woods. If you don't care about blemishes the bcm blems are cheap. It really liked the 100gr Hornady bullets.

Every build is different, of
coarse, but when I did all the bench rest tweaks to it and my reloading it shot way under moa, approaching the .5s using 8028 powder and Lapua brass.
