Bottom Line: Old Grand-Dad: John got vanilla & oak and I got the oak on the nose with no burn.Lightly sweet and spicy followed by oak and vanilla. Well balanced with very light burn. Old Crow: No burn on the nose. My first sip was bland. Sweetness up front with oak at the end. Winner: Old Grand-Dad!! Old Crow - 40% ABV / 80 proof Old Grand-Dad = 43% ABV / 86 proof The amount of burn on these too were similar. We have tried some lower proof spirits that actually had more burn than some higher proof ones. Adding ice usually calms down the heat.
