A BBQ joint in Hillyard (nearby suburb) had a homeless encampment spring up on the street outside her business. Business fell way off and her electric bill tripled. Turns out these urban campers carefully trenched her lawn and tied into her electricity. It seems the homeless community always craps in their own nest.
The local police cleaned things out and her business picked back up, so at least some good news there.

Down near the Bay Area a state facility was getting high power and water bills. They traced the power and water lines under the freeway and found an encampment under the freeway that had hot tapped the water line and just let it run full time, tapped into the open and closed sign on the freeway to get power. They had electric heaters, TV's, a shower set up.....Crafty little cockroaches they are...

We had 6 or so RVs on the street by our yard in Kent. We and the Kent PD left them alone as they were well behaved. The company even rented a second portapotty to accomdate them. Then a new one showed up and started stealing stuff like copper wire and tools. That was all it took and the decent ones were ousted from the area and the thief was arrested in his underwear. The arrest was great to watch but the decent ones also paid the price for the one bad apple. I feel sorry for the decent ones, but when you clear a camp they all have to go.
I live in a travel trailer now but pay for my space and utilities in a park.
