Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - tommag - 12-04-2024 It looks like southern Arkansas has a huge deposit of lithium and it can be extracted by drilling. I'm finding this exciting! https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/dec/3/arkansas-mineral-discovery-could-shift-uschina-pow/ RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - olfart - 12-05-2024 It wouldn't be nearly so exciting if you lived where I do and have no mineral rights. RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - tommag - 12-05-2024 So, if I'm reading you right, whoever owns the mineral rights could just come in and drill on your property without your approval? RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - olfart - 12-05-2024 Exactly. RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - tommag - 12-05-2024 That's not good. RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - olfart - 12-05-2024 The only glimmer of hope I have is that several years ago they drilled a well about a mile from us looking for oil/gas and came up empty. As I understand it, the lithium is found in oil fields where brine has been pumped in during the pumping process. That brine dissolves the lithium in the soil and makes it easier to retrieve than trying to mine it. You don’t have any say in how the land you “own” is used if someone wants to dig for minerals of some kind?? RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - olfart - 12-06-2024 Nope. They have to pay minimal rent for the surface area they occupy, but certainly not enough to make up for the loss of trees. RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - specops56 - 12-06-2024 Nobody owns "their" property. Don't believe me? Stop paying your yearly tribute to the King and see how fast the real owner comes to repossess. Terry RE: Huge lithium discovery in Ar. - Rampy - 12-06-2024 (12-06-2024, 09:01 AM)olfart Wrote: Nope.
