Maybe here since it's defense related. I'm a nra lifer as well as 2af and goa.
I just got my America's first freedom magazine (no clue who to vote for in the NRA) but it has an interesing article on the ultimate home defense gun. Myself, I've always considered a pump shotgun to be the best followed by a carbine with a large magazine. One guys opinion in the article makes a good argument for a handgun because it frees up your week hand and was easier to resist being disarmed. I find that to be a compelling argument even if you don't have the firepower of a shotgun or a carbine.
I have a g17 with a light on it here and my bedside gun is a 44 bulldog with lazer grips. Of course, there's a Mossberg 500 loaded with #4 buck within reach.
What do you guys think?

Sounds like you are covered pretty well! I usually have a M&P Shield 9mm with light/laser combo and a Hyve +2 mag extension on me...my theory is that that has enough firepower to get me to my safe if needed!

The odds of needing any of my choices are about 0. If anything did occur I'd probably not survive long enough to need anything else.

If you wonder about why I would choose a revolver, it's because when I sleep I usually have pretty numb hands when I wake up. No worries about limp wristing on a pistol, just point and click. Revolvers are very forgiving, they always work

Before I retired I taught small unit tactics and CQB, (missile complex facilities and ICBM launch facilities) we had M16A2’s among other weapons and I carried a GUU 5/P (modified XM177)

If you are in a safe room and will not leave it a Shogun is wonderful as is a AR depending on how you have it set up and that’s another subject entirely

Handguns….I personally keep a Staccato XC with a Modlight 350c on my side of the bed…..the wife has a Staccato P with an older Surefire U boat….both with Red dot optics and 20rd mags & one in the pipe

Wife had a 12ga on her side & I’ve got a AR pistol….

I went with the brightest light my damaged eyes could tolerate waking up from a dead sleep & the wife has a brighter light

You want the absolute brightest pistol light possible for your eyes, light is your ally when it’s dark, candela pushed thru ambient light or other light most small pistol lights are pretty for pictures & carrying

Shotgun/Rifle also needs a light, a stupid bright light…..as bright as you can tolerate as the weapon light will provide you some level of concealment

Anyone who claims a weapon lights can be to bright has never done night time weapons training in a blacked out building

As far as tactics I’ve taken quite a few weapons from guys clearing the MAF, they telegraph their positions with the muzzle & when you grab onto it and really tug hard…..it’s a great learning experience to say the least

Yes it’s harder to disarm a handgun in most cases, don’t telegraph with your muzzle & use good tactics and if someone grabs your gun, squeeze the go switch……..

Home invasions are up quite a bit in Colorado & not making the news and going north…..We have also had a increase in home related crimes burglary & such but as cold as it is they have gone back down

Now this is my personal opinions based on what I learned & practiced so take it with a grain of salt

The XC has the smaller light & doghouse of a dot…..

Revolvers are very good, but they have a higher instance of malfunctions unless you stay on top of maintenance. I’ve seen screws back out and other problems depending on how much you shoot. Was shooting a S&W revolver & it locked up on me, the crane screw backed out….oops….

this was found on the ground in the daughters town No I did not black it out….

I also have a separate stupid bright hand held light in your bedroom also…..with spare batteries

We both have CloudDefense rechargeable lights, I like the Modlight better (long story) but they are stupid expensive. However, the offspring all have a Modlight with spare batteries

Plan on your cell phone being inop, some home invaders are using jammers…..

Well that's a new one, jammers. We'd have been better off keeping the POTS infrastructure alive.

My neck of the woods its more 4 legged threats then 2. Glock 10mm with streamlight for nightstand gun. Along with 45/70 propped by door, 12ga with slug and 00 at exterior door. My thought is the what I have picked will work just as well for the two legged. If I could mount a flashlight on my 500smith I would use it, would not enjoy touching that off in the house if I had to.

That's why I still have a land line in my bedroom.
