ham radio contesting - tommag - 03-30-2024

This weekend is the cq ww wpx contest. I'm not a contester but like to use them to put a few new countries in my logbook.
The speed of these contesters amazes me. One station in Belarus has 8000 contacts in 15 hours! That's in the neighborhood of a contact every 7 seconds!
Now that I think about it, that was a multi operator contest station. They're probably working several different bands simultaneously.

I'm like you, I only use contests to put more contacts in my logbook and hopefully more QSL cards on my wall.

It's funny how propagation changes. For the past couple of years the South Pacific was like dialing the phone from here. Now, when I point my antenna that way I get nothing south of Japan and Hawaii, even during a contest. I used to struggle with Europe but now get a lot of contacts in Europe and the baltics.

Rack up another for climate change🙄 Is that still the woke accepted terminology?
