This is a very hard day for me, have not been able to make it to Arlington yet

Was trying to this summer but have to be home for a few appointments so cutting the June trip short and yet we will be within 100 miles of DC

My Dad- he volunteered about a week after he heard about the Chosin Reservoir- he was on a student exemption and he volunteered because he thought they needed him. He served honorably and lived to a ripe old age. Became a police chaplain and had a military and police honor guard at his funeral.

My cousin was training Afghans. About a week before he was scheduled to come home, one of them turned on the Marines and killed him and two others.

Was just home in Marshalltown for my uncles funeral, he survived Chosin and was Chesty Pullers RTO during the battle

Only medal I know about is the Purple Heart

He passed away in Florida & was cremated, my first funeral where the deceased was cremated

He was the chaplain at his Marine Corps league in Florida, ya that’s the Rumpster standing behind him…..z

I watched a PBS program about the ghost army in WW2. I was aware of the dummy equipment and camouflage developed then but sigintel was also used along with recorded sounds of equipment/troops, etc. As with most pbs stuff it's not available online but I think it's covered in this article. Imagine intentionally trying to draw fire to give the real invaders cover!
