For the past month or so I've had strong cravings for vegetables.  I substituted some things based on what I have rather than another trip to the grocery store.   I was a little bit short of broccoli so I parboiled some carrots to add to it.  I'm not a big fan of plain rice so I doubled the sauce just to make sure.  I've never seen extra dark soy sauce so I just used a touch more soy sauce. Hopefully im not missing out.  The beef, well. I only had about 3/4 of a lb of round steak so it will be enough.  I only had mirin wine on hand  so I figured that along with the carrots would be sweet enough so I omited the sugar.

Anyway, the prep work is all done, except for the garlic and ginger, no sense in cutting those up now and allowing the aromatics to evaporate into the clouds.
