When I was in the armory at Offutt I had a old school machinist turned AF gunsmith teach me to stone the guts of a revolver & even using wet sandpaper to smooth everything out & he said never cut the springs but you could use wet sandpaper on them 

But before doing that dry fire it a few thousand times of it’s new, unlike our old revolvers
