Florida controversial Shooting

So a Active Duty USAF E-4 decorated combat veteran AC130 crewman living off base in a shitty neighborhood got shot dead by a responding sheriff while face timing his girlfriend

Druggies & thugs live where he does, they have random shootings in the area, quite a few active duty AF live in the apartment complex and area due to cost of living & it’s all they can afford

His crime…..he answered the door with a gun in his hand…..pointing at the ground away from the officer

Somebody called 911 saying a very loud violent fight was going on in that apartment (lots of conflicting reports on this) and the cops say he knew it was the officer and others say he did not…..

Lots of shit talking about a black guy answering the door with a gun, he got what he deserved & that is fucking unacceptable

The Sheriff said it’s a justified shoot

Now Florida Law Enforcement is investigating along with AF/OSI (think NCIS) and the Airman’s special forces command

Body cam footage shows gun pointing to the ground & cop saw gun and went bang.bang.band.bang over and over

Just venting as I answer the door with a gun in my hand at times……

I honestly don’t know if it’s a justified shoot….but this is having huge impact all across the AF……so far his command is 100% in his corner supporting him and his family while waiting for the results of the investigation (s)

If the body cam catches all the actions of the dead guy and he didn't look like a threat that doesn't sound like a good shoot. Emphasis on the if part.
I was once pulled over and sitting in the ditch talking to a gal while her partner looked in my truck. He yelled out GUN and she drew her pistol with her finger on the trigger. She was visibly shaking and it scared the crap out of me. This sort of reaction can only be more common now since the gang bangers consider cops as fun targets.

I always answer my door with a gun in my hand but I hold it where the person at the door can't see it. This is the post saint Floyd era DEI LEO hiring that we now have.

Turns out this is the same sheriff department that had a guy shoot up his squad car when acorns fell on the car & he thought he was getting shot at

Oh and he had a handcuffed guy in the car & he missed him

I’m starting to think Terry is right and it was a DEI hire

I can't put all Leo's in the same basket, but the acab crap has caused a lot of good cops to move on.  Imagine putting on a badge and being thrown under the bus by your political leadership even when you did a good job.
I was once tasked with tutoring a fellow officer that was dumb as a box of rocks. He was a good guy but a real geranium.  Every rule was broken to keep him on because of the diversity push at the time.  After he got his commission he lasted only three weeks.  This dei crap isn't new, that was 1980.
Anyway, current conditions aren't conducive to  keeping the best on the job.  Lots of good ones are still in the job but I'm sure the percentages are getting worse.

I'm just glad that I don't have to deal with city cops here.
The last time LEO showed up here was at night, and two squads pulled in, and I met them on the driveway before they made it ten feet from their cars. I asked if I could help them, and they said they had a call. I told them I hadn't called, and I live alone, then asked what the address was they were looking for. As I expected, they were at the wrong house, and they thanked me and headed back to their rides. I told them to stay safe and have a good night.

Rule 934,720 of self defense: If you think you need a gun while answering the door, don't answer the fracking door. I think HSRacer learned this lesson without catching bullets. Seriously, it is as simple as dialing 911 and telling the TC that there is someone at your door claiming to be a cop. They can let you know in about 20 seconds if it is indeed a cop or not. If it isn't a cop, they are going to tell you "Don't answer the door, we have someone on the way and they will arrive sometime in the next 30 seconds to 12 hours.

Not saying this isn't tragic and possibly unjustified, but it is certainly Darwinesque.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have. I have a gun in my hand no matter who's at my door unless it's a friend I'm expecting. I've only had cops come to my door twice in the 21 years I've lived in this house. The first time was an FBI guy investigating one of my neighbors for a security clearance. The second was the county SWAT team dealing with the neighbor directly cross the street. Both times I had a gun in my hand when opening the door and they never knew it. No one is going to know it unless they force me to use it.
