I've never been a tacticool guy, my interest has always been accuracy so I shunned ar15s  until I shouldered one at a gun store, a dpms lite 16.  Dang, that felt right so it followed me home.  I loaded up my tried and true 52gr Bergers on top of some 322 powder.  Was I ever surprised! That stupid thing shot under .5 at 100  yards.  Thus began my quest with the AR-15 platform.  I've never competed in matches, only against my self. I don't give a damn about trophies.  Anyway, I ended up with my crowning achievement, a Bartlein heavy bbl  6.5 grendel thermofitted to a bcm blem upper. I chose the 6.5 because of the long history of success of the 22 russian based cases in the bench rest game. I like bcm uppers because they're slightly undersize requiring thermo fitting that results in great bedding. I don't care about lóoks just results. The blemished ones are far cheaper and adequate for my needs.
Surprisingly I bought a pencil thin bbl from gpc for $135 that came from a now defunct defense department manufacturer that the ATF shut down because of importation violations.  It's a chrome lined bbl and chromers aren't known for accuracy but that upper easily shot in the .7 range.
Anyhow, to sum it all up, I've lost interest in firearms and hang around here for the feeling of comradely.

I'm not sure whether it's loss of interest or loss of ability to pay for ammo to keep the interest up. In my case, that seems to be the culprit. Last time I did any serious target shooting was 2019, and ammo has just kept going up.

Lack of ammo- or primers and powder- is the easiest way to kill the shooting economy. You can hit things with a hammer even if there aren’t any nails, but a gun without ammo has very limited use (unless you’re a marine with a Garand and a fixed bayonet).

Even if you’re the 1 in (1,000?  10,000?  1,000,000) who stockpiled, if you’re the only guy at the range, you’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

Stupid high prices is almost as bad as completely unavailable.

You would be welcome. Of course I'd be embarrassed for anyone to see how lousy I probably am right now do to lack of practice.

The first day will be handgun day.  I plan to shoot 3 38spl revolvers and 3 9mm pistols. The second day will be rifles. 2 ARs and 2 .308 rifles.

I'm sitting here trying to remember the last time I pulled a trigger on a live round. I've done some dry firing but am pretty sure the last shot I fired was squirrel hunting at the end of 2021 or start of 2022. It really isn't a shortage of ammo, I have a decent stockpile especially of .17, it is more of a lack of time and a place.

But I swing by here to hear your thoughts, even the not gun related ones.

No problem remembering when I pulled a trigger. I did my LEOSA qualification a couple of weeks ago. Shot as well or better than a lot of the deputies.

I really miss our ‘Zombie Shoots’ at my club. They’re really just an excuse to train, but if you call it a ‘zombie’ you’re not practicing to shoot real, live people. They set up scenarios to ‘pie the room’, terrorist zombies who took hostages, and my personal favorite; zombies with skateboards…

The group who ran the Zombies got crossways of the board and a bunch of political crap ensued. The family who mostly ran it quit the club and the fudds on the board said, “We don’t need them, we have IDPA shoots.” But IDPA wants you to pre register and prepay for the season and commit to attend… I can’t do that (Zombies were a ‘come when you can’ arrangement).

So, I haven’t quit shooting altogether, and I still hunt, but I go to the range a lot less these days.

I feel the lost interest comment, time is the hard part. Building a home, a 6 month old, daily farm chores, and then the day job. I have only squeezed the trigger at a coyote in the last 6 months.

My interest nowadays is rebuilding scopes bought on eBay that are "not working" parts or repair. Recapped the power supply and went from this

That's most of what the antique tube radios I restore need to come back to life. And then there are the ones that just sit there on the bench and laugh at me!
