I'm struck by some of the comments on other sites about the California fires. Bleep those rich people, they can afford it, etc. Yeah, maybe the super rich are going to be ok, but it's still a major disruption in their lives. Not all the fire damage was to tony neighborhoods, many folks who live paycheck to paycheck have been destroyed as well. A couple of us here have big (to them) problems as well. From the recent earthquake in Nepal to the fires in California, they're all in need of prayers. Never let envy keep you from praying for people.

I have a friend who works for the red cross. She was saying today the red cross can't get places for people to stay because of the number of hotels the city and state have illegals staying in.

If you live where there are hurricanes you have to build to a code that gives the house a fighting chance of resisting a hurricane.
If you live where earthquakes are common, you have to build your house to stand up to an earthquake.
But if you live in an area that burns on a regular basis, you can build your house out of materials which will burn like gasoline and that is OK.

A lot of these folks just had their homeowners insurance cancelled at the start of the year. Why? Because democrat politicians made it impossible for insurance companies to insure homes and remain profitable. And the money the taxpayers asked to be spent over a decade ago on reservoirs for things like droughts and giant fires still hasn't been spent.

I'll pray that the people get fed up and start lynching the politicians they've elected. It amazes me the newsome and the mayor of LA are walking around in the wide open with TV cameras in tow. Someone is going to decide since they have lost everything now is the time to take it to "the man".

Really sad all the way around....sad for the people that live there and sad for why it is happening. Urban sprawl into the fire prone areas without taking measures to prevent the spread of fire is the reason for this. More open space between homes, fire breaks in the fuel areas, and a better plan for developments to avoid high risk spots.

Currently California is spending a boat load of money on firefighters and they just don't see that no matter how many fire fighters you have you cannot fight these types of fires. Until people and governments realize this is a man made problem and come up with better plans this trend will continue.

The reason it all happens is money...money talks and developers get lots of money to pack homes into these canyons. people love where they live without realizing they are sitting ducks for fires.

Better building codes, more open space, more fire breaks, and less dense housing........that is the key but if you do that nobody will like the way it looks.

I am currently working on some timber land building a shaded fire break. It is over 10 miles long and 1/4 mile wide. and designed to slow or stop a fire from traveling either towards homes or the timber land depending on which way the fire goes. Here is a section we are just finishing up with....I'm running our short logger today and hauling out the oak firewood, we already took out all the big trees for lumber....

Lots of blame to go around, that’s best saved for another day after fires are out

I know of several fire departments here that have sent brush trucks to California & a couple are on the Eaton fire

No way can they put out the fires, have to get containment before they can do anything and by then…………

Was planning on visiting my sister in Calif over spring break & had planes on driving down PCH to LA & hit a couple restaurants before going home. The stories she has are unbelievable, such devastation. She also is hearing that the fires are actually arson & designed to wipe out part of Southern California and that citizens “arrested” a non us national who was starting one Fire

We had reservations at a hotel in Santa Monica & the hotel called to let us know our reservations have been canceled due to the fire and they are housing refugees

I saw that report from LAPD that citizens caught one arsonist. Given the distance between several fires it does look like arson whether it was coordinated or random firebugs.

Fire is a cheap, easy, devastating terror tool.

Makes one wonder if this is part of what Sara Adams has been talking about
