Back in the day the Marines let the junior shooters have a "range day". It was a recruiting tool for them, we were already good shooters so letting us play with the toys was their attempt to set the hook. We got to play with all the machine guns they had in their "library". It was an eye opening experience. Of course the M14 was fun but completely uncontrollable in full auto. Even the one with the heavy barrel and pistol grip stock was just too light to keep rounds on target. But the coolest one was the MG42. Technically an MG3 as it was in 7.62 but man that thing was fast shooting and controllable. Recoil was negligible and short bursts often had all the shots "on the paper".
The last full auto I shot was a .300BO AR. It was a hoot. But a full auto .22 would be a neat toy.
