There’s no dining room- you either eat standing up at a counter or take it to your car. Cash only. Simple menu- hot dog with fries or double dog with fries. That’s about it. A Vienna Beef Red Hot is NOT a hot dog- all beef (no lips, eyeballs, or buttholes- real beef) and a nice ‘snappy’ casing. And fresh, greasy fries that sit in your stomach like a cannonball. It’s marvelous.
I’m completely ignorant about going North from Gene & Judes to the UP, where are some good towns/places to look for hotels?
wont need food since we just feasted at Gene & Judes
Hm. I suppose it depends how far north you’re going in a day? Milwaukee is reachable in 1/2 a day. Look for a Racine Kringle for dessert. Lake Geneva and Williams Bay, Wisconsin have some nice places- within 2 hours from Gene and Jude’s.
Cedarburg, WI, I think has places, but it’s been a few years. Door County is a little out of your way, but we LOVE the dining and lodging- Ephraim especially, but Egg Harbor & Sister Bay. You gotta catch a Door County fish boil!
Thanks will check them out 😎😎😎😎😎
Going from Marshalltown to Marquette, right now it’s a full days drive
However, if we detour to Chicago then we tend to go 8-9 hours before stopping for the night
I don’t want your wife mad at me; you’ve been warned. Gene and Jude’s is a hot dog stand. No tables. No waiters. Pay cash and eat in your car.
But… it is, IMHO, the world’s ultimate hot dog stand. A double dog and fries and I can hear the angels singing. I don’t enjoy raw onions or relish, so I get mustard and sport peppers. Don’t ask for ketchup if you value your life.
No problem with eating in the car other than normally you don’t get refills on drinks 😱😱
Im trying to keep carbs as low as possible so would not normally get fries
As far as condiments on red hots….if it’s a good red hot with a good steamed bun…nothing.
However, I’ll also go with what is recommended or generally preferred as to get the real experience
I do like raw onion on chili dogs and a good relish on cheap hotdogs along with mustard and ketchup
