Calling all M1 Garand experts - Help needed!

I have an M1 that was gifted to me by my best friend who died of cancer last September. While I am generally familiar with the M1, I am not a collector or expert.  I am going to have tables at the local gunshow next month. I plan to sell it and give the money to his widow to help her out with the probate expenses. I want to find out as much about this rifle and it’s fair market value so I can get her as much as I can for it.

Below is all I know for sure about it and a few pictures. Thanks in advance!

Well, I figured CMP would be a good source of info for you, but apparently they're out of the surplus M1 market. All they offer now is their new CMP receiver with surplus parts.

I did find a Garand collectors group with some info that might be helpful. https://www.militaria-deal.com/militaria...ifle-guide

You might check Gun Broker for price comparisons. I don't think I'd offer it for any less than $1,000 unless there's a flaw I haven't seen yet.

They still sell them but you have to dig on the page to find them. If you just click CMP Garand on the home page it takes you to their new manufacture rifles. You have to go to the E-store and scroll to the bottom and look for the rifles page.

Accurate information for an individual rifle is hard to come by. From the looks of it I'd say it is a CMP rifle, Field Grade and your quoting the barrel wear I am figuring you got it off the card. It could be a Danish rifle, the stock suggests it. If you look inside the stock there should be a stamp or sticker in the op rod channel that says FKF which stands for the arsenal that refurbed them. Stocks get swapped out when they are reworking them at CMP so it could just be a Danish stock on a US gun. Not that it makes any difference but some jackal at the gun show will try to tell you the serial number on the stock makes it worth less. It really doesn't matter. Field grades were selling for $800 last year. But when I get to gun shows they are always over $1,000 even with the CMP tag still hanging on them. Hell, even the rack grades are going for over $1,000. I'd start a little high and give yourself some haggle room. But you are an old gun show guy, you know that stuff.
