Have you ever said something stupid and couldn't correct it?

Twenty years ago, my friend since childhood and his wife and kids were at my place for a barbecue.  He convinced me to sign up for farcebook.  With his family and mine watching I saw a girl I knew in school.  I blurted out "I remember her, she was incredibly tight!".  My buddy hooted loudly and said "TOM, YOU DOG!".  His wife, and our young kids were shocked.  My wife relegated me to the doghouse for a couple days.
I tried to explain that it came out wrong, I meant she was very trim and tight looking.  Nobody would believe my clarification.  Part of my buddy's YOU DOG comment was we both knew her and she was a very devout christian that was unapproachable in a sexual fashion.

Yeah. I got a couple of those. I guess I could think of some times I actually said something offensive… but the times I really didn’t mean it that way. Those really get me. If you’re mad because I said something rude, I deserve that.

But if I offended you and I genuinely didn’t mean what it sounded like, I hate that. And there’s no way to explain your way out of most of those- just makes it worse.

Funny how that works. The more you try to explain the more others are convinced of your guilt.

We had two brothers start riding our school bus. New kids in the area. Got to know them and one day a new girl showed up on the bus and I asked them “what the hell is that”. She was overweight and ugly. They both said “ that’s our sister”. I sat in silence all the way to school. At 58 I still do dumb things

Nope. I've never said anything stupid in my life!

Until now.

"Want to get married?" Yeah, that still stings.
