I love it when a plan comes together

With me being a big 1911 guy, I've always wanted a dedicated 1911 in 22, or at least a good conversion upper. I've been eyeballing them for a long time, and had a couple frames sitting here with hopes of finding a upper.

It finally all came together this week when my local gun shop had a used Kimber custom II 45 come in with a Kimber 22 target rimfire conversion kit. Interestingly the kit came with double stack PARA mags, but thats not big deal. I have some proper mags on the way.

One of the frame options I had sitting here for the eventual 22 build was a Kimber alloy frame. It's no secret that I am a big fan of alloy frame 1911s, and I threw that upper on that frame.

Boy, it's even better than I had hoped. The alloy frame is very light weight with the alloy slide, and the whole gun weighs less than my Ruger mk4 22/45 lite.

The real deal sealer was the accuracy. I don't have any magazines so I had to single load it. I fired a couple rounds at a 45 caliber hole in a USPSA target to see where it was hitting which was about a inch and a quarter low, and held accordingly. This group was 10 rounds at 10 yards.

Can't wait for the magazines to get here so I can really go to town with this thing.

When you texted me that video I was very impressed. That pistol is way more accurate than I am. Nice shooting, sir!

Oh, I have to add, you got a great deal on the Kimber.

I honestly keep forgetting about the 45. I should probably go shoot it 😁

I have a 1911 sig scorpion with a .22 conversion kit. It's not super light. But it is very accurate.

I built… (well, let’s just say Gaston wouldn’t approve of me cutting some plastic away and fitting the frame with rails and a trigger and calling it his last name, and Comrade Biden wouldn’t approve of it at all) but I built it and installed a .22 slide and barrel. It’s amazing to me how much I enjoy shooting that little gun.
