Taurus started out by making revolvers for S%W, on S&W machinery as well as Beretta 92s for Beretta on Beretta  machinery. They're not exactly new to the art of gun making.

Taurus never had contracts to make either manufacturer's guns.  They bought Beretta's machinery after Beretta's military contracts expired, and Beretta no longer needed it.  When they started producing their version of the 92, Beretta sued them and they changed the design.  S&W sued Taurus for making a Model 66 clone.  Again, Taurus was forced to change the design of their revolvers.

And just because a company has been making guns for a long time, doesn't mean they make good guns.  Kel Tec is a prime example.  Taurus settled a $39 million class action suit because they knowingly sold pistols that weren't drop safe and the guns could fire with the safety engaged. The PT-111 Millennium, PT-132 Millennium, PT-138 Millennium, PT-140 Millennium, PT-145 Millennium, PT-745 Millennium, PT-609, PT-640 and PT-24/7 all were part of the lawsuit.

You are correct and I mis-remembered. However, they were owned by Bangor Punta who owned S&W and was able to share in their technical knowledge. They bought the Beretta plant that was planned for making the 92 for the Brazilian military. This gave them the machinery and technical knowledge also. My experience with their products is obviously different from yours. That’s okay. I’m sure that your experience with some brand you like is opposite mine. That’s the nice thing about guns, we all have plenty to choose from.
