my local ham radio community!

I just learned that my neighbor is coming by tomorrow to figure out the tower installation he has planned for me. Can you imagine several guys on the work crew all donating their time and what ever materials I don't have (I have quite a bit of Davis 400 ultra flex coax and connectors for it so that shouldn't be a problem). I've always been the helpful guy but I've never been on the receiving end of things like this so it feels kind of strange to accept this help. I guess the chickens are coming home to roost. I'm truly blessed!

Anyway, I have great location, radio wise, and getting my antenna up to 40 feet should allow me to work the world. Ham radio is a silly hobby but I enjoy it immensely.
I forgot to ad, my bedrock is only 16" down so my safety ground really sucks. Bill has a hammer drill so he's going to add a couple of good ground rods.

Hey, take the help and be thankful it's there. Hams are a helpful bunch and enjoy helping others, so by accepting, you're giving them the pleasure of helping you.

Yes, I got a lot of pleasure helping out as I could! I manned one of the guy ropes with Bill's tower erection a couple years ago.

Bill stopped by today and unloaded a couple sections of Rohn tower as well as measured the area for putting in guy wire anchors. He has a gas powered hammer drill for the anchors and the ground rods. Another ham is bringing his gin pole to put it up with.

I'll take some pictures as it's getting erected. The weather forecast looks ideal for this coming weekend so it'll probably get put up Saturday.

I'm not sure we want pictures of your erection.

How do I respond to that?! I don't think I have enough zoom to post those!

Here's my current antenna setup along with the tower sections Bill dropped off Sunday. I just talked with Karl, ak2o, and he's going to be part of the work crew. He's coming over on Tuesday to drop off some supplies for the project.
