real maple syrup

I cooked some corn meal mush for fried mush tomorrow.  Just out of curiosity I bought a small bottle of pure maple syrup even though I have a partial bottle of Mrs Butterworth syrup.  I've never had actual maple syrup before.  Tasted about 1/2 teaspoon and boy oh boy!  There is a difference and it's really good!

Had to look up corn meal mush, can’t say I’ve ever had it before or even heard of it. Sounds different but possibly worth trying one of these days

It’s amazing with the difference, and it’s not as sweet

We get Costco brand maple syrup & while its a Costco branded product, it’s 100% pure Canadian maple syrup at a reasonable price

Don’t know how they do it but it’s soooo much better than the commercial flavored corn syrup

It's worth a try.  It only takes about 10 minutes to cook, then put in a loaf pan to chill overnight so you can slice it.  I used 2 mini loaf pans.

Wife’s asleep as we’re going out to a semi local DDD place for a 0700 breakfast……..and it’s a 50 min drive 🤣🤣

Don’t have any yellow cornmeal so I’m looking thru Amazon to see what they have 🤪🤪

I've never used white corn meal but I think it'd taste the same. It wouldn't be as visually pleasing, though.

As with most things, there's nothing like the real thing!

If you make mush, it will stick in the sauce pan and seem impossible to clean.  Don't panic!  Scrape what you can off then put a dab of soap and fill it with hot water.  Let that soak an hour and it'll come right off.

I'm surprised at how thin this syrup is and how little it takes on the mush.

have some non stick pots that clean up easy and when they are stubborn, soap & hot water soaking overnight always works

those pictures are good…think they are thinner than I pictured, gives me an idea what they should look like….

frying in butter sounds simple….like even something I can dooooooooooo 😁😁
