With the oldest needing a vehicle and an opportunity coming up, it looks like I will be purchasing a new vehicle. Well, new to me but only slightly used. It is a 1990 GMC Suburban. Unfortunately, only 2wd so my offroading ability is going to be limited. But it only has 30k miles, new tires and the interior is immaculate. The exterior has 35 years of sun fading and paint largely blasted off the horizontal surfaces, but no body rust in the lower half. Last time it was on the road was 3 years ago when it was pulled into the garage it currently sits in. Had spent several years in the lot at a repair shop as it was in the shop for new tires and an air conditioning compressor when the owner took ill and then passed away.
When I went to look at it with the kid he looked into the back of it and said, "Put some curtains in the back and a mattress....." I cut him off and told him he would be driving the Saturn because he likes to drive where I put single digit miles on my car daily. Speaking of single digit mileage, that is about what the boat gets if the notebook with every fill up and miles the owner kept is any indication.
Should be a fun ride. Full whiplash bench seat in the front and enough room to carry around a lot of fishing poles. Will likely give the rusty spots on the top a sanding and a rattle can paint job. It has fuel injection and electronic ignition so isn't a "Light's Out" vehicle but will do a to b just fine. Oh, and it has a trailer hitch so can pull the camper. Sure the mileage will go down with that.
