use enough gun.

Just got a text from a friend in Alaska. Stand off with a moose on his front yard. He said his 45 acp felt inadequate.
A little over a year ago, his wife sent me a video of him in a similar situation using a 10mm, 11 shots fired before shorting out the cns.
So  does anyone make a holster for his m70 458?

I read a guy who went fishing in Alaska. Night before he went out, he was sitting in a bar bragging about his .44 mag and all the young guys were impressed. When things quieted down, an old timer slid over and quietly said, “So, if you were hunting grizzly, you’d leave your rifle home and come up here with that hogleg?” “Well, no.” Old guy, “Heh. But, you’re gonna stop an angry charging bear by the time you get it out and figure out you need to shoot? Heh, heh, heh.”

The next year the guy had a BAR in .338 win mag with iron sights, carried straight up the center of his back with a safari rig.

Also, there’s this:

Big brown bear require a lights-out CNS shot, or a big bore heavy hitter, and even then one shot stops cannot be counted on. There's always outliers - like the guy on the Kenai (or maybe it was the Russian River) years ago who dropped a charging bear with a 9mm (lucky shot that penetrated a hole in the bear's skull, either eye or snout, can't remember which, exactly) and managed to hit the brain.

Moose are another big game animal that you cannot count on handguns or small bore rifles to take down adequately. People don't give moose the respect they deserve as a dangerous animal, they think they're just big goofy looking deer, nevermind that they weigh as much as a small car and a kick from them hits harder than a pistol round.

Alaska is just a big frozen Australia where the weather and the animals all want to kill you. Don't mess around.

Here, we only have enough moose encounters that they make the headlines.
My edc is geared for bipedal dirtbags. 9mm with a 12 gauge behind the door.  After that,
there's a garand with a bandollear hanging on it.  Hard to imagine a use for it, but it's there.

Worked with a guy who had a moose tag outside of Jackson Hole & he was disabled & legal to shoot from the road

Had not even checked into his hotel, saw a trophy moose, pulled over and harvested it with one shot from his old wooden stocked 338 win mag

You need penetration 1st and accurate shot placement 2ndly

9mm hard cast buffalo bore would work for black bear/elk and such if you can accurately hit the target

The 460/500 S&W hand cannon’s are all the rage, around here but chances are all you can accurately get off is 1 shot due to the violent recoil even if ported…

I’ve been looking around at 10mm just for the heck of it & keep coming back to the 44 magnum, not only is it a smidgen bigger, it drives a hard cast 305gr bullet at 1300fps and that’s going to rattle you fillings loose 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ve been loading the 3” Colt python with BB 180gr hard cast when out/about in the mountains followed up with 1or 2 reloads of 158gr JHP anti human ammo 😂😂😂

I've never shot a 500, but did handle one out of curiosity at the store. My first thought was you'd need a wheelbarrow to cary it!
